Major film studios have suspended the sale of licenses to show their new films to Russian online cinemas, Kommersant reports with reference to the data of representatives of Russian streaming services.

Kinopoisk (part of Yandex) told the publication that the company does not have access to some foreign premieres due to sanctions from copyright holders. At the same time, the Kinopoisk licensing team remains "in touch with key partners."

“Content that has already been released continues to be available. As for new foreign projects, we are in the same situation as all Russian online cinemas: some digital releases, as happened with the films Spider-Man: No Way Home, The King's Man, Nightmare Alley, were postponed indefinitely,” the representative of the video service explained.

The streaming service Wink had similar problems with the purchase of foreign premieres. “We are closely monitoring the development of the situation, we are in contact with the copyright holders and are looking for all possible options to present new content,” the press service of Rostelecom, which owns the online cinema, told the publication.

IVI, Okko and Amediateka declined to comment on the situation.

Earlier, a number of international film studios and video services decided to suspend their activities in Russia. Among them are Disney, Warner Bros., Paramount, Universal, Sony and video services Amazon Prime Video, BBC Studios, Discovery, Netflix, Megogo, WarnerMedia.

On March 14, representatives of the music streaming services Yandex.Music and VK Music announced that they could not add the latest releases of Western artists to the libraries.
